YouTube Success: Crafting an Effective Video Marketing Strategy

YouTube had over 1.9 billion monthly active users in 2019 and this number keeps growing by the minute. Content consumers use this platform for entertainment, music, to get informed on something, or to help them make purchasing decisions on products and services.

On the other hand, content creators use the platform to share their knowledge on a subject, work with brands, and share information their audience is looking for. There are thousands of YouTubers that earn six figures from the platform and have millions of subscribers and fans.

However, with so many people uploading so many videos, the market is becoming saturated. It’s more difficult to stand out from the crowd, but it’s not impossible.

Have a Plan In Place

Before you start filming videos, you should have a plan in place for at least one quarter of the year. Start by making a YouTube business plan where you’ll outline the types of videos you’ll create, your production budget, monthly and yearly goals, and monetization strategies.

A plan will help you be consistent and achieve your goals faster. It’ll also keep you accountable and help you take your channel seriously.

Know Your Audience

To be successful on YouTube, you need to know who you’re creating for. Knowing your audience by demographics and preferences will help you create better, more relevant content. As a result, you’ll see higher engagement, better conversions, and more views.

When planning your content, dive into your YouTube analytics and see what your existing audience likes. How do they interact with your content? Do they share, like, and comment? You can usually see which direction you should go by reading people’s comments. They’re great feedback for when you’re stuck and need inspiration. This way, you can make future videos tailored to your audience and improve your YouTube marketing strategy.

Be Consistent

Consistency is key when it comes to YouTube success because your audience will expect content from you on a regular basis. If you don’t have a posting schedule and only publish videos randomly, you won’t build a loyal fan base and following.

The best way to make sure you push videos every week is to schedule them through the platform or other social media scheduling apps. This way, you’ll be sure to give your audience their weekly dose of content, even when you’re not in front of the computer.

The competition on YouTube is real and counted in the billions, and if you don’t stick to a schedule, your audience will leave. If you already have a decent following, you should try even harder to be consistent to keep your audience interested.

Create Quality Content

If you’re serious about YouTube, making quality content should be your priority. Depending on your audience and their preferences, you can discover their pain points and requests and make videos accordingly. For example, if you’re in the beauty niche, you can do product reviews, best and worst products from a brand, tutorials, informational videos, beauty routines, and even brand collaborations.

Also, bear in mind that what you think is quality content may not be true for your audience. In time, you’ll see how they react to your videos and you can adjust your strategy, topics, and types of videos you publish.

Do Keyword Research

YouTube is a huge platform with millions of videos uploaded each day. There’s a lot of competition and if you want to stand out from the crowd, you should learn to optimize your channel with keywords. Do some research online for YouTube best practices on SEO so you know which keywords perform best for your niche.

Then, implement them in your video material, the video title, description box, and comment section. When the YouTube algorithm learns that your content matches the search word people enter, your video will come up among the first ones. Keywords will also help your content rank on Google, but make sure you choose keywords with at least a thousand monthly impressions.

Use Calls to Action

Calls to action are the bread and butter of YouTube video marketing and prompt the audience to do something during or after watching. For instance, if you want them to click on a link, share your content, or leave a comment, you should tell them directly. Don’t expect everyone to know what to do, because most people won’t take any action unless being instructed to do so.

Make sure to have calls to action in the description box as well where you can add links to your website, social media channels, or online shop. Writing a comment in the comment section and pinning it is another way to get people to take action. Remember to not be pushy with CTAs as they can easily annoy people and have the opposite effect.

Interact With Your Audience

The YouTube algorithm is based on engagement, which means the more likes, views, comments, and shares your videos get, the better they’ll rank. To keep this number high, but also gain trust with your viewers, you should always interact with them to keep them interested.

For example, after publishing each video, spend an hour replying to people’s comments. This will show them you genuinely care about them and appreciate their support. You can also shout out your fan’s names in your next video or make a video based on your followers’ decisions, such as “my followers control my life for a day”. These perform great because they let people participate in your content directly.

A great way to have people watch your videos even when they’re not online is to teach them how to download YouTube videos to iPad. This way, viewers can access your videos at any time and anywhere and binge-watch your content.
