Is It Plugged In? Most Common IT Solutions and Issues

There’s nothing more frustrating than being in the middle of work when some sort of tech issue plagues your computer or device. Having to halt in the middle of work can be massively frustrating — and can even cost you money.

It’s in these situations that you need to get things back up and running fast. Getting familiar with common IT solutions can help you to better handle these scenarios when they arise.

What are some of the most frequent problems and solutions those working in tech run into? Read on and we’ll walk you through what you need to know.

Restart the Device

It may sound obvious, but it fixes more problems than you’d ever believe: restarting the device that is causing the issue.

If you haven’t yet tried doing a hard reset on your computer, that could be all it takes to get things running smoothly again. Why is this the case?

Often, computer systems run into problems by a minor miscommunication within the operating system. Something gets stuck, so to speak, and the error that you’re experiencing results.

A reset starts up everything fresh and new, which is often enough to get around this momentary error. If you’re still having hardware issues, it may be that the device you’re using has gotten old and may need to be retired.

Device Running Slow

Another common issue that IT departments are often called in to fix? All of a sudden, a computer or other device is running slow as molasses.

This can be understandably infuriating. There are a few solutions you can try.

The easiest fix is if the problem is being caused by one application. You can open your task manager and see how much memory each program you have open is using. If one program is using a massive amount of memory, closing that program should resolve the issue.

There’s a chance that the issue is also related to spyware or malware. Running an anti-virus scanning program and getting rid of these harmful digital threats can help get your device back up and running at a normal speed.

Printer Isn’t Printing

Ah, the bane of all of office workers: the printer that just doesn’t want to do its job. What would an IT pro do in this situation?

After restarting both the computer and the printer, they’d likely look to troubleshoot the printer itself. Is there a paper jam? Are the ink cartridges not installed properly?

They might also look into the connection between the computer and the printer. How are the two devices linked? If they are supposed to be on the same wi-fi server, make sure that they are both actually on the same exact network.

If you need to, have your device ‘forget’ the printer and try to reconnect from scratch. That often fixes the problem, though a professional IT solution provider might be able to attack the issue from even more angles.

It’s advisable that you read more information on what such a service can provide.
