2 Tips for Hiring Building Security for Your Small Business

2 Tips for Hiring Building Security for Your Small Business

Hiring building security for your small business shouldn’t be overwhelming and confusing. Click here for a couple of tips to get you started finding the right security company and guards to protect your assets.

Almost as many as 9% of businesses were fell victim to burglaries and thefts in the last year. That’s a shocking amount!

In light of this, it’s not surprising building security has increased in popularity. If this is something you’re considering, then continue reading and take note of these two handy tips.

Let’s dive on in!

1. Outside Security

First things first, you need to check the official boundaries of your office before you hire a security company. Once you have this info, you can secure your perimeter. This is essential for controlling who enters your property and drives onto your land.

Barbed wire and armed security are a tad extreme for small business premises. However, a simple hedge and some CCTV are great ways of improving your external security measures.

The intensity of your security methods all depends on a cost-benefit analysis. You need to weigh up the risk of an intruder and think about how detrimental this would be to your business, and discuss this with your potential security company.

When implementing perimeter security, you need to discuss with your service provider both Natural Access Control and Territorial Reinforcement; you’ll know they offer an excellent service if they’re well versed on these concepts.

Natural Access Control

Natural access control pretty much refers to highlighting the entrance and exit of a building.

This takes away any feelings of power a criminal might have as they enter and/or exit your property. The less risk they feel, the more control they have.

For example, criminals are far more likely to act if they think they’re able to get away with unlawful activity, unnoticed.

So, your security company needs to make criminals feel a higher level of risk by marking the entrance and exit. This draws attention to these areas from passersby and potential witnesses, which is the last thing a burglar wants!

Put simply; strong security helps guarantee commercial lease renewals, which is great for business!

Territorial Reinforcement

Territorial reinforcement attempts to prevent unauthorized entry onto your property. It focuses on creating a sharp distinction between public and private areas.

Therefore, those who have a right to be in your office feel a sense of ownership, making it harder for criminals to blend into the background.

2. Interior Security

Internal security cameras are the best way to monitor the inside of your office. You’ll never know when you’ll need the footage to provide as evidence in a later investigation.

You can also install motion detectors. These send an alert to your security guards that an intruder is present. This piece of kit is excellent for helping them respond to an issue as soon as possible.
