3 Sure Signs That Your Child Needs a Tutor

Having a handle on the education of your child is one of the most important things you can do as a parent. You want to make sure that they’re getting the best possible education and are succeeding in school. However, sometimes it’s not easy to tell if your child is struggling academically or just going through a temporary slump. Here are three signs that your child may need a tutor.

They’re Frustrated

If your child is starting to show signs of frustration with their schoolwork, it may be time to get them some extra help.

Frustration manifests in several ways. Maybe your child is getting angry when they can’t figure out a problem, or they’re no longer wanting to do their homework. If they’re putting off their work or trying to do it as quickly as possible, that’s another sign of frustration.

A tutor can help take the frustration out of learning by breaking down concepts into manageable pieces.

Their Grades are Slipping

If you’ve noticed that your child’s grades have been slipping, it’s time to take action. To illustrate, let’s say your child got a C on multiple tests. If that’s out of character for them, then they need tutoring.

Of course, a slip in grades doesn’t necessarily mean your child is struggling. There could be extenuating circumstances, such as an illness or family issue, that caused the drop. However, if the grades continue to slip and your child is getting lower grades in multiple subjects, it’s a sign that they need some assistance.

A tutor can help your child identify any weak areas and develop a plan to improve their grades.

They Won’t Go to School

If your child is refusing to go to school, it’s a sign that something is wrong. While it could be that they’re being bullied, it could also be that they’re struggling with their school material.

If your child is struggling academically, they may be afraid to go to school because they don’t want to face the embarrassment of not understanding what’s going on. Or they may be worried about being called out by the teacher.

A tutor can help them feel more confident and catch up to their studies.

Here are signs that they don’t want to go to school:

  • Feigning illness. Kids feign illness in multiple ways. They may lie about symptoms, or even go so far as faking vomiting.
  • Excessive tiredness. It’s normal for kids to be tired, but if your child seems to be dragging themselves out of bed, it could be that they’re dreading going to school.
  • Not wanting to socialize with their friends. If your child suddenly doesn’t want to hang out with their friends or go to after-school activities, it may be because they’re avoiding school.

These are three signs that your child may need a tutor. If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to take action so your child can get the help they need. A tutor can make a big difference in your child’s academic success.
