Motivation

Boosting Employee Morale: How You Can Make It Happen

As a manager or business leader, it will be your job to ensure that your employees are motivated to complete the work allocated. Of course, this goes further, but that will be the basics. It can be a difficult job to motivate, but there is guidance out there to help you get started. Read on to learn more.

Promote A Healthy Work-Life Balance

Many employees will get demotivated if their work life blends too much into their personal lives. This has been harder to distinguish, especially with remote and flexible working becoming more relevant in the modern world.

Whether you are working 100% in an office or offering flexible working, it will be important to respect the private time of your employees. It will be important for you to help promote a healthy work-life balance. One thing you could do towards this end is avoid communicating with them outside of work hours. This allows them to separate their work life from their personal life.

You should work hard so that they can go home from their workday without taking any stress or anxiety home with them. This will affect their personal life and their work life, which no one wants. Ensure you build a work environment that helps promote a healthy work-life balance. You will find that employees are more motivated at work when they have a good work-life balance.

Offer More Responsibility

Some employees can become quite stagnated in their roles. There will be steps employees can take themselves to prevent stagnation, but if you’re a manager or leader of some kind, then there should be steps you can take. This could come in the form of offering your employees more responsibility.

If employees feel trusted more to complete certain tasks, then it is likely that they will feel more connected to the business in some way. This will motivate them to get the job done right and to a high quality to reflect well back onto them.

There are likely to be jobs that you and other managers do that could be delegated down the hierarchy. The important thing to remember is that you shouldn’t overburden employees with jobs that they aren’t trained for or compensated for. If they are given too much to do, then that could only lead to more problems.

It’s all about balance. You should communicate with them about what you’re thinking of implementing beforehand to find out if it’s something that they would want and benefit from.

Prioritize Their Health

Modern employees have more demand for their services. That means you need to work harder to prove to them why they should be working with you, rather than leave to a competitor or a completely different business in another industry.

A way to approach this is to offer private health insurance to your employees. This could help them feel assured that if they have any health issues arise, they will be able to be well looked after without having to wait for a long time.

Signing your employees up to these private health insurances helps to show them that you do care about their health and will be an excellent way to boost their morale. There will be other ways you can show you’re prioritizing their health too.

For example, you can invest in quality office chairs that help keep backs protected when working and avoid damaging them both in the short term and long term. You can read this guide on ergonomics 101 by Branch to gain more of an understanding of what’s at stake here. Showing that you are investing in the health of your employees will motivate them to work harder, and not be distracting by any health concerns that come from work.

Offer More Incentives

On the topic of investing in your employees, it may be a good time for you to think about offering more incentives to your employees. Incentives can come in a variety of forms. Most commonly, however, this will be to do with finances. It could be that you are rewarding them with a monetary bonus for reaching certain goals.

Incentives do not have to be money-based, however. There are non-monetary incentives to help motivate and retain your employees. For example, you could offer extra days off as a reward for maximizing targets or hitting goals. This could be an extra day for a vacation, or it could just be an extra day off or a few hours to take for themselves.

If these employees are more incentivized, then it is likely to lead to an increase in morale and overall productivity. If you want to implement this into your workplace, but don’t know how, it could be worth asking employees or managers directly. This will give you a more direct look at what could work for your employees and find out what motivates them.
