Top 5 Tips for Moving a Business to a New Location

Moving your business to a new location can have a lot of benefits. Your new location may be more accessible to your customers, have better drive-by traffic, and be more convenient for your employees. Additionally, a new location may mean more space, better facilities, and a more appealing environment for your customers or clients.

However, moving a business is no small task, especially if you’ve spent the last few years growing your company. Depending on your business, you’ve probably acquired more equipment, office supplies, and employee amenities.

The question is how to make your office moving in Singapore the smoothest and most efficient way possible. We’re here to help. Keep reading for our top five tips on moving to a new business location.

1. Plan Ahead

First and foremost, you need to plan ahead. While some situations or circumstances dictate a sudden or unexpected move, most business owners have months in advance to prepare for a relocation.

Assuming you know ahead of time you’re going to move, start being proactive now. Start planning the layout of your future space. Adjust your budget to account for the expense, whether it’s higher or lower.

2. Evaluate Your Assets

Next, before moving a business to a new location, assess your current assets. This includes everything from office supplies, furniture, tools, equipment, etc. Make a list of everything your business owns.

This is also a good time to declutter your workspace and get rid of anything that isn’t coming over to the new business location. Learning how to relocate a business is much easier when you have less to move.

3. Hire Professional Movers

Most businesses have a lot of heavy items. As such, it may be beneficial to hire a professional moving company, rather than trying to do it yourself or demanding your employees to pitch in.

Professional movers can streamline the process of relocating a business while ensuring everything gets from point A to point B unharmed. Depending on your assets, it may even be worthwhile to hire domestic freight services.

4. Advertise Your Move Months in Advance

Moving a business can be tough on your customers and clients. Therefore, it’s also hard on your business. Losing customers or clients is inevitable during business relocation.

Your new location may be inconvenient for some people. However, while customer breakage is an expected side effect of moving, you can negate your losses by advertising your move long in advance. Create incentives for customers who stay with you through the relocation.

5. Maximize Employee Involvement

Finally, learning how to move a business with employee involvement can significantly reduce your stress, save you money, and expedite the process. Notify your employees as soon as you know you’re going to relocate.

If possible, set up an employee moving day where everyone can come down and help relocate. At the very least, they should be packing up their personal items and clearing the way for professional movers.
