3 Challenges of Metalworking Jobs and How to Conquer Them

The metalworking industry is currently booming with business. The healthy economy has ensured an abundance of construction, which then turns to the need for metalworking. This recent boom in business means that metalworking jobs are in demand and the industry now has a heavy workload.

A career in metalworking is rewarding, especially with it being in such high demand. But as you build your career in this field, you need to be aware of the common challenges you might face.

Here’s a list of 3 common metalworking job challenges and how to beat them!

1. Coolant Issues

To maximize the life of tools, the coolant needs to be kept clean and have the correct concentration. To ensure this, you’ll need to keep up with a monthly coolant maintenance schedule. It’s also a good idea to use a synthetic coolant, which will help eliminate the build-up of oil-based residue and the risk of contact dermatitis.

Using well-built parts such as the Snap Loc coolant hose is another way to keep things running as smoothly as possible. In the end, there will be less time spent on cleaning and fixing tools and machines.

2. Skill Gaps

With there being a boom in the industry, there’s a fast pace of change that workers and shops will need to keep up with. This is sometimes difficult for them to do. This then creates challenges with skill gaps for the customers.

However, when shops and workers learn how to use new technology, customer skill gaps begin to decrease. The shops will need to show customers how to take advantage of the new technology, which will later help everyone involved.

For example, with new technology, shops can find tools that have multiple functions. This saves time and helps output.

3. Endmill Fracturing

Some materials, such as a hard nickel-based alloy, are difficult to machine. Because of this, the endmill is only able to machine but a few times before it’s ruined. Workers are then forced to stop the process, switch it out for a new tool, and then try again to see how it’s working.

This takes up a lot of time and lowers productivity. To correct this issue, use an endmill with a threaded-end tool clamp. This makes screwing in and unscrewing much easier. A new tool can be switched out quickly and easily, saving time.

The money spent on the new clamp will come back to your pockets in productivity.

Defeat These Challenges of Metalworking Jobs!

As rewarding as it is to build a career in the metalworking industry, metalworking jobs do come with a few challenges.

Luckily, there are ways to overcome these obstacles. Defeat these issues by having an understanding of what the problem is. Keep these 3 common metalworking job challenges and solutions in mind!
